IN keeping with the time of year, there were cards aplenty on show as the Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League reached its Christmas break at the weekend.
Sadly for the clubs and players involved, they were of the red variety as the issue of indiscipline once again reared its ugly head.
Five players were dismissed in the Ballynure Old Boys v Clough Rangers Athletic fixture, all for an accumulation of bookings.
And there were further disciplinary problems in the game between Cookstown Olympic and Coleraine Crusaders, which was abandoned after 83 minutes, just after the mid-Ulster side had opened the scoring.
The Crusaders players disputed this goal and had an altercation with the referee claiming he blew for free kick prior to goal being scored. This resulted in Crusaders being reduced to six players, thus the game being stopped which will now become a case for the IFA Disciplinary and League Committees.
Amid the red card mayhem, there was plenty of exciting action, with Carniny Amateurs finishing 2009 in spectacular goalscoring style.
Anthony McCartney's side hit 12 goals against a very young Chimney Corner Reserves team, decimated by first-team call-ups as the Antrim club goes through a transitional period in Junior Division One.
The league now takes a break until Saturday, January 2.
