THE chase for Crawford Cup honours in the Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League is wide open after two of the fancied sides fell at the weekend.
Both Dunloy and Coleraine Crusaders – well-placed in the pursuit of league honours – exited the competition, leaving the path clear for perhaps one of the 'lesser lights' to claim some silverware.

One side who will certainly be fancying their chances is Raceview, who eased into the second round of the competition by hammering Ballycastle United.

BEST WISHES

Everyone within the league and the football fraternity in general, extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery to Anthony McCartney, the Carniny Amateurs manager, who sustained a badly broken leg in their recent Junior Shield game.

Anthony, who was only playing due to the late withdrawal of Carniny's regular keeper, was a top class keeper during a long career, sustained the injury in a goalmouth collision.

FIXTURES

Matches involving locally-based sides this Saturday, February 13, are:

Intermediate League: Brantwood v Clough Rangers Athletic; Raceview v Portglenone.

Junior Division One: Raceview Athletic v Ballymoney United Res; Chimney Corner Res v Ballynure Old Boys 'B'; Cookstown Athletic v Carniny Amateurs.

Junior Division Two: Demesne Strollers v Red Star.

Junior Division Three: Antrim Rovers v Ballyclare United.

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

Result: FC Ballynure 2, Rasharkin United 2.

CRAWFORD CUP ROUND ONE

Raceview 8, Ballycastle United 0: Raceview got off to a blistering start with Philip McBurney scoring on the fourth minute then followed by a hat-trick of goals scored by David Tennant on the 18th, 22nd and 32nd minutes.

McBurney added a fifth goal on the 36th minute then second half goals scored by Matt Boyd, Tennant and Gareth Mott on the 56th, 62nd and 73rd minutes completed the scoring.

CRAWFORD CUP ROUND TWO

Results: Brantwood 5, Coleraine Crusaders 0; Dunloy 1, Cookstown Olympic 4.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Glebe Rangers Reserves 1, Chimney Corner Reserves 2: Both teams had a chance to score in the game before Jonny Graham scored for the Corner on the 25th minute.

Glebe then went for the equaliser but had to wait until Gareth Henry converted a penalty on the 55th minute.

The game was then delicately poised with the winning goal being scored for the Corner by Henry Nutter from the penalty spot on the 70th minute.

Raceview Athletic 2, Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves 3: Athletic took the lead on the 20th minute when Andrew Duncan converted a penalty but then saw Liam Brady cancel this lead after he scored for the Sky Blues on the 30th minute.

Athletic took the lead for a second time with Duncan scoring his second goal on the 52nd minute but again the Sky Blues came back with Brian Beattie scoring on the 75th minute.

A draw then appeared to be the result until Donal Walls scored the winner for the visitors on the 86th minute.

Tobermore United Reserves 4, Carniny Amateurs 3: A brace of goals scored by Chris Magill on the 16th and 25th minutes saw Tobermore in front.
