Ports off mark with first win

PORTGLENONE recorded their first league victory of the season on a busy weekend of Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League action.
Michael Larkin's side leap-frogged Ballycastle United at the foot of the Michelin Athletic Club-sponsored championship after a 4-3 win over the north Antrim men at Gortgole Road.

At the opposite end of the table, Raceview remain in pole position despite dropping two points in a 3-3 draw at FC Ballynure.

INTERMEDIATE CUP

The draw for first round matches in the WKD-sponsored IFA Intermediate Cup will be made in the Des Allen Suite at Ballymena Showgrounds this Wednesday, September 30, commencing at 11am. All teams who have entered the competition are requested to be in attendance.

FIXTURES

Matches involving locally-based sides this Saturday, October 3, are:

Intermediate League: Clough Rangers Athletic v Portglenone.

Junior Division One: Tobermore United Res v Chimney Corner Res; Raceview Athletic v Cookstown Athletic; Glebe Rangers Res v Carniny Amateurs.

Junior Division Two: Desertmartin Swifts v Demesne Strollers.
County Antrim Junior Shield, round one: West Kirk v Antrim Rovers.

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

FC Ballynure 3, Raceview 3: Raceview took the lead early in the game after David tenant scored on the second minute and after this Raceview had a good spell on the attack but Ballynure then matched then getting back level when Keith Anderson scored on the 17th minute.

Both teams then had a chance to score before Mark Ritchie scored on the 29th minute putting Raceview back in front which remained at half-time.

Raceview increased their lead on the 47th minute after David Tennant scored his second goal in the game but then saw Ciaran Murphy bring Ballynure back into the game after he scored on the 56th minute.

Ballynure then went for the equalising goal which came on the 79th minute after Phil Hall finished off a good move resulting in a point each at the end.

Dunloy 3, Clough Rangers Athletic 2: Clough had the first chance in the game on the 34th minute but Andy Logan saw his penalty hit the wrong side of the post with the keeper beaten.

Clough took the lead on the 41st minute after Chris McDonald scored and this goal separated the teams at half- time.

Dunloy got back on level terms after Benny McGarry scored on the 65th minutes and after this Clough saw two gilt-edged chances missed before Lee Kennedy shot Dunloy in front on the 84th minute.

Clough had another good chance but Benny McGarry showed how it's done when he scored number three for Dunloy on the 90th minute.

Clough replied immediately when Ross Steele scored on the 91st minute but by then Dunloy had the points in the bag.

Portglenone 4, Ballycastle United 3: Ballycastle had the best of the attacking play at the start of the game and took the lead after Martin Jamison scored the opening goal on the 28th minute.

Half-time came and saw the single goal still separating the teams then on the 71st minute Gary Kenny scored the equaliser for Portglenone.

Kenny scored his second goal in the game on the 77th minute to put Portglenone in front and this lead was extended after Kamil Fetela scored a brace of goals on the 83rd and 85th minutes.

Ballycastle hit back and two goals scored by Gareth Hindman and Barney McAuley on the 86th and 88th minute gave then chance to save the game but in the end time ran out for them.

Other results: Ballynure Old Boys 2, Cookstown Olympic 1; Brantwood 2, Coleraine Crusaders 2; Mosside 3, Kilbride Swifts 2; Desertmartin 2, Rasharkin United 0.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Carniny Amateurs 8, Ballynure Old Boys 'B' 2: Carniny took the lead after Adam Whitehurst scored on the 10th minute but then saw Henry McWilliams cancel this lead out after he scored on the 20th minute.

Carniny regained the lead when Kieran McGarry scored on the 25th minute and then goals from Adam Whitehurst on the 45th and 56th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Carniny who had control of the game went on to score four more goals through Gary McMeekin 2, Steven O'Neil and Nicky McCartney with Steven Crymble scoring one for Ballynure.

Other results: Raceview Athletic 0, Tobermore United Reserves 3; Cookstown Athletic 2, Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves 3; FC Larne 1, Ballyclare Comrades Reserves 2; Ballymoney United Reserves 2, Newtownabbey Sevens 0.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Demesne Strollers 1, Desertmartin Swifts 0: Both teams gave it their all in this game and it was a surprise no goals were scored during the first-half.

The second half was following a similar path as the first until on the 64th minute Jon Alexander scored for Demesne and at the end of the game it secured the three points.

Other results: Cookstown Olympic Colts 1, 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys 2; Finvoy FC 3, FC Ballynure Reserves 2; Moyola Park Olympic 6, Ballyclare North End 1.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Results: Ballynure Old Boys Youth 2, Mallusk Athletic 1; Carnlough Swifts 2, Newtownabbey Sevens Reserves 0; Grange Rangers II 3, Dundrod Old Boys 3; Newtownabbey FC Reserves 3, Ballyclare United 1.

IFA JUNIOR CUP ROUND ONE

Antrim Rovers 2, Foyle Wanderers 4: Foyle took a three goals lead before conceding an own goal on the 45th minute which gave the Rovers some hope in the game.

The Rovers then got a second goal after Jon Graham scored on the 57th minute but soon after this the visitors scored number four to kill the game off.
