Busy summer schedule ahead for Arvalee RC

COMMENCING one of the most varied programmes of the summer, Arvalee Riding Club (ARC) have certainly pulled out all the stops in their first year.

Lessons

Kicking off the summer schedule members are currently travelling to Mulvin stables for lessons with Richard Smyth. Lessons will then return to the RDA for grid work sessions with Nadine Arthur and Sonya McAleer.

Showing Clinic

With plans are also well advanced for an open showing clinic on 7th June at the RDA centre, starting at 7.30pm. This will provide the perfect opportunity to brush up on showing technique, as two top class local showing experts will be on hand to assist with all your queries. Taking the in-hand clinic will be top Irish Draught breeders, Vi Wilson and Seamus McGillion. Both have won many Irish showing accolades, including several agricultural show wins as well as RUAS and RDS titles.

The under saddle clinic will be taken by Trillick rider, Ann Regan, Ann is a regular in many showing classes and has had several top placings with her horses over the past few years. Including taking Champion Cob twice at the Northern Ireland Festival, several placings at the RUAS, National Balmoral and qualified for RIHS, and the highlight of her career so far has been competing on several occasions at the RDS, Dublin !!!

The clinic is open to everyone; entrance is £3 including supper. Further details from C Bogle on 07709199474

Barbecue and trek

The first of the social events will take place on Friday 29th June, where an open barbecue and trek will take place by kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Abercorn at their Baronscourt Estate. This event is open to everyone; those without horses are also welcome to attend as the lanes around the lakes will be open for the avid walker.

Tickets are now available for the barbecue from ARC committee members, £8 per adult and £4 per child. There is no fee on the trekking or on walking around the lake, however donations to Omagh RDA would be very much appreciated. All proceeds from donations will be used in the Raise the Roof campaign.

Omagh Show

The next event is one of the local highlights in the agricultural and equestrian calendar, the Annual Omagh Show. Arena 4, the Working Hunter arena will be organised by Arvalee Riding Club. There will be classes available for everyone, including ‘clear round jumping’ for horses on Saturday morning, entries will be taken on the day. ARC have been very lucky in securing some very generous sponsorship from local and national business to which they are truly grateful, this means that some great prizes will be available for the worthy winners of classes.

A schedule of events is now available from the Tyrone Farming Society office, or on the Arvalee Riding Club face book page. Horse working hunter classes will take place on the Friday, with ponies taking to the arena on the Saturday. Castle Leslie

The final outing on the summer schedule will be a day trip to Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan on Sunday 22nd July. Members will be able to choose from either a long leisurly hack around the estate, or challenge themselves over their excellent cross country course.

Members are always welcome to join, for further details on any of the above events please contact our chairperson, Chris Fowler 07938601700, secretary Emma-Jayne Fowler 07793275851, treasurer Sonya McAleer 07874350665 or member Chris Bogle 07709199474.
