College students tackle jumping event

On the 20th April 2015, students undertaking first year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management programme were invited to Castle Leslie to take part in a horse jumping competition, competing against Castle Leslie students.

Twelve of the Level 3 students took part and the non-rider students who take part in the Competition Grooming module were able to join in on the day by helping tack up and cool off the horses.

CAFRE students were also faced with the extra challenge of jumping with horses which they had never sat on before. Each of these students rose to the occasion and jumped very well on their allocated horses.

After the first round scores were tallied up, there was a Castle Leslie team and CAFRE team drawing for first place. These teams then took on a nail biting second round in which the spectators and remainder of teams provided support for each of their members.

The CAFRE students again put on a great performance with two of the four riders jumping clears and the other two finishing with just four faults. The Castle Leslie team however, jumped round with 3 clears and one with 12 faults.

As this round was run using a discard score it meant that Castle Leslie took first place and CAFRE took an honourable second place. The CAFRE Team consisted of Keziah Kirkpatrick, Jessica Kirk, Danielle Westall and Jill Chism.

Organisers would like to sincerely thank Castle Leslie for hosting the day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all and a great experience was gained.
