Helen and Derrivane Danny register back to back victories

The penultimate leg of the Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing League took place on a much warmer day than we have had to date, albeit punctuated with a short, sharp shower.

Excitement is certainly mounting as the final approaches with very little separating the top twelve competitors so there is everything to play for going into next week’s final.

Helen Faulkner and the purebred Connemara gelding, Derrivane Danny, secured victory in the Intermediate class for the second successive week with a very impressive score in excess of 80 percent. Following behind was Nicky Nesbitt with her mare, Ringfort India, a combination also showing consistent form over the course of the League.

The Novice class saw the very busy Emma Jackson take top spot on Billy, marginally ahead of the runner up, Justine Harding with Joanne Jarden’s MJI Cabernet.

The trip from Sligo was very worthwhile for solicitor and part time farmer, Donnacha Anhold who swept to victory in a very large Pre Novice class with DBS Springbank, a thirteen year old gelding sired by Kiltealy Spring. He also picked up a fourth place in the very strong Novice class with AP Topstar. Runner up in the Pre Novice class was one of the younger competitors of the day, fourteen year old Ellie Parkhill and Mac who had every reason to be celebrating her success as her previous visit to the venue with this mount resulted in an emergency dash to the RVH with a fractured leg.

Another very happy young rider was Ciara Gilroy who picked up the top prize in the Intro class with Little Rock Lux, an eight year old by VDL Arkansas out of a Lux Z mare. This gelding was broken less than two years ago and shows great promise with his rider, Ciara, who is brushing up her dressage skills under the tutelage of Sasha Stewart. This combination are looking forward to the start of the eventing season. Susan Cumiskey tucked in behind in second place with Dusty, a full Connemara by Robe Thunder out of a fugitive mare bred by David Morrison at the Holiday Stud in Portadown. The mare, which is owned by Amanda Dempsey, mainly competed at Working Hunter until this winter when Susan and her daughter Abby began their eventing preparation of showjumping and dressage. This is another combination we look forward to seeing out at the start of the season.

Showjumping was again very busy with great compliments being paid on the educational courses for all classes which are becoming progressively more technical week on week.

This series of Flexi Eventing is proving to be very educational for all participants.

Once again, sincere thanks go to all Officials – Judges, Scribes, Call Up Stewards, Arena Part, Scorers, Admin Team who work long hours to ensure that a high quality of sport is enjoyed by so many.

Dressage entries for next week’s final should be with Dora by 6pm latest on Wednesday.

The up to date League table will be posted on Facebook and on the Meadows Equestrian website. Please notify Dora by Thursday of any inaccuracies as mistakes cannot be rectified after this point.
