Mid-Antrim riders celebrate their successes

Jeffrey Lundy and Grace Milton, both pupils at Castle Tower School's Dunfane campus, have every reason to be pleased with themselves, having gained their RDA Grade 3 Riding and Horse Care Certificates.

Along with some of their classmates, Jeffrey and Grace attended riding lessons provided by Mid-Antrim Riding for the Disabled Group.

The group, manned by local volunteers, has been in operation for over 40 years and uses the excellent facilities at Galgorm Park Riding School.

Most of the young riders who come to RDA manage to gain Grades 1 and 2 certificates but this is the first time that Grade 3 has been attempted.

At Grade 3 level, riders are expected to be able to ride independently off a lead rein as well as demonstrating a good basic knowledge of horse-care.

Caroline Twemlow, RDA Northern Ireland Regional Coach, came to Galgorm Parks to examine the young riders to ensure that they reached the correct standard.

She was delighted to congratulate them and their coach, Catherine Maybin, on their remarkable achievement.
