Crowds flocked to enjoy the annual Saintfield Horse Show at Tyrella House on Saturday.

With great entries, great weather and great craic it was certainly the place to be.

Organisers were delighted to have multi-winning race horse trainer at Cheltenham Noel Chance to judge The Downpatrick Race Horse to Riding Horse Class along with Ann Ferris, who was the first Lady to ever win the Irish Grand National.

Noel, having won no less than two Cheltenham Gold Cups, had his hopes dashed to win Delaney’s musical donkeys when he fell trying to get his donkey to move.

Gerard Donnan from Country Harmony had everyone in stitches when he did the commentary for the donkeys and with his side kick Box Car Brian taking part himself there were occasions when the crowds watching were not sure if the Hee! Haws! were coming from him or the real donkeys.

However everyone taking part won a bottle of Powers Whiskey for their efforts.

The North Down Hounds put on a wonderful display and everyone watching was delighted to be invited into the ring to stroke the hounds.

All sections of the show were very well supported.

Show Director Joan Cunningham was delighted with the success of the whole day and would like to thank David Corbet for the use of his venue.

Joan added: “Thanks must go to all the competitors, judges, sponsors, stewards, St. John’s Ambulance, Country Harmony and Box Car Brian for the fantastic music in the marquee. Not forgetting my own team who worked so hard trying to keep things running smoothly and to every single person who helped in any way.”

Joan concluded: “I am already looking forward to seeing everyone again at The SaintfieldChristmas Charity Ride on Saturday, December 5, at Saintfield Livestock Mart.”
