The Fermanagh point to point festival produced 15 races over the two days and again David Christie emerged as top trainer at his local venue with a treble of success, writes RON McKNIGHT.
Farlands with Liz Lalor in the saddle recorded win number five when easily accounting for the Enniskillen College trained pair Hunters Tweed and Master Florian in the Friday evening feature for lady riders.
The winner will be another of the Derrylin trainer's team to attempt the maximum permitted six races in a season at the Kinsale festival next month.
Royal Ranger gained his 'six' when landing Saturday's feature to match stable companion Arctic Copper's maximum tally this year while the winner owned by Portrush hotelier John Hegarty was also repeating the feat of his horse Finoel a few seasons back.
Pertinent Point owned in partnership by the trainer's father and George Ramage completed the hat trick for the Ulster trainer when claiming the mares maiden on the second session and ensuring a new Ulster Champion rider in Jamie Codd.
The opener on Friday night was divided with Onzo Mor landing the first division after Derek O'Connor's mount Cross Kennon fell at the final fence when alongside while Gerry Mangan based with trainer Enda Bolger registered his 21st success of the season aboard Towmater owned and trained by former rider Warren Ewing in the second divide when again the task was made easier with Mister Socks' departure at the last.
Ballyclare-based Warren Ewing advised post race his winner would be next seen at Doncaster Sales later this month and is sure to attract the attention of trainers seeking prospective racecourse winners.
The 5 & 6 year old geldings maiden was another division with Grant Approval (Ben Brabazon] landing the first heat and Carrigmacogue (Jason Mc Keown] collecting the the second division. Dunrod based William Rankin trained and partnered Miss Ballygawley to a convincing victory in the first division of the finale while John Daniel Moore scored on Catch The Stars in the second division.
The opening hunt race on Saturday saw Newry rider Jason Mc Keown prevail on Crafty Don ensuring third place in the Ulster riders championship and confirm Newry open form to deny the Christie trained Room To Room Suite.
The Ian Ferguson-trained Winning Counsel supplied the best performance at the meeting when recording her third win of the season in the mares winners contest.
The Ballymena trainer said: "That's her third success this season. She only came to me to train at the end of last year. She loves the fast ground and I will look for opportunities on the racecourse proper in the coming months."
Wiwa ridden by Donal Skeham won the geldings maiden while Aintree Grand National winning trainer,Gordon Elliott collected the last and supplied another wining favourite with Massinis Best partnered by Simon McGonagle.
