With soaring temperatures and over a hundred entries, there was hot competition for places at the annual Ards Riding Club one-day event at Kircubbin (by kind permission of the O'Flynn family).
The organisers were kept extremely busy and their thanks go to the sponsors, judges, scorers, caterers, paramedics and the large army of members and friends of the Club whose collective efforts made the event possible.
Claire Liddle on her new horse Davy's Lad was a clear winner in the Open class; while the new Restricted 2'9" competition for riders and horses currently or previously registered with Eventing Ireland, saw fierce competition with Junior rider Tori Dixon on Golly Miss Molly defeating Senior rival Gillian Harris on Sensa Melia by a mere 0.1 of a penalty.
The Senior Novice 2'9" fell to Pamela Fox on Jimmy's Choice while Ards member Alexandra Carser on Captain Morgan took the honours in the Junior 2'9".
The biggest class of the day, the Senior 2' 3", saw the closest finish of the day with only 0.5 penalties separating the top 3 horses, Louise Ireland on Shadow was the eventual winner- by 0.1 of a penalty. While in another big class the Junior 2' 3", Charlotte Dixon on Blackstown Secret Promise emerged the clear winner
Next on the agenda for Ards Riding Club is its Wednesday evening Summer Show Jumping league which starts on June 4 at Bairdstown Road, Ballywalter (by kind permission of Mr John Robinson).
The competition is open to non members - details on website or telephone Leah on 07791 985 220.
