JESSICA Kurten claimed the 39,600 euro top prize when she triumphed over Australia's Edwina Alexander and France's Pénélope Leprovost in a 15 horse jump-off at the Rolex World Cup Qualifier competition at Leipzig, Germany.
The five-star competition saw 40 starters, but it was Co Antrim born Kurten who was the only Irish rider to make it to the jump-off when both Cian O'Connor and Denis Lynch faulted in the first round.
Riding Lady Georgina Forbes's mare 'Castle Forbes
Libertina', who has just recently returned to the international circuit after an injury lay-off, the 40 year-old rider shaded Australian challenger Alexander by just a fifth of a second in the final round.
The victory also leapfrogs Kurten to second place in the Rolex World Cup Western European League standings, just six points behind Dutch leader Eric van der Vleuten.
Speaking after her victory, Kurten said: "All I can say is I'm very happy - she is an amazing horse."
It was a good weekend for Kurten who also registered second place in the Leipzig Championship competition at the German World Cup show on Saturday afternoon.
One of just seven combinations to go clear from a starting field of 46, Kurten and Lady Georgina Forbes's mare 'Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois' trailed World number one Albert Zoer from the Netherlands by just eight-tenths of a second in the final round.
Germany's last-to-go Olympic Gold medallist Marcus Ehning threatened to take the runner-up place from Kurten with a faster time, but clipped a single pole to finish in fifth overall.
Kurten took 4,800 euro in prize money for her place.
Another Irish rider in the prizes was Cork's Billy Twomey who won the Amsterdam Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
Twomey's success together with Kurten's means the Irish duo dramatically improved their world ranking points, with Kurten jumping to second place in the Rolex World Cup European rankings.
Thirty-two year-old Twomey was one of just six to make it through to the jump-off at Amsterdam's four-star Grand Prix, and produced a surprise win on Sue Davies's ten year-old stallion 'Je t'Aime Flamenco', who has only recently returned to the international circuit after a long injury lay-off.
The win also helped net him the show's Leading Rider Award, yielding a further 10,000 euro in prize money.
Horse Sport Ireland Show Jumping Team Manager Robert Splaine said afterwards: "This has been another fantastic weekend for Irish show jumping - winning the two biggest prizes on offer in the world. We had superb results last weekend with the Basel Grand Prix victory and the World Cup Qualifier win in America, but to repeat it this weekend with two more results at the very highest level of the sport must give us every confidence for the year ahead."
Twomey himself added: "I'm delighted to have the horse back winning at this level. Big thanks are due to longterm owner Sue Davies, for all her patience and support."
