Christmas presents, reindeers and a dozen or so Santas, a sure sign that the Laurel View Christmas Show was in full swing on Sunday, December 13.
Amber Vick and Woody Woodpecker took the honours in the first class of the day the 60cm Novice Pony. The Open Pony, 80cm title went to Two Tone Toni and Rachel Coulson. Rachel also managed to clock up the most points in the Pony Top Score class. Th
e Pairs Relay was next and the winning combo on the day was Ashley Duncan and Kirsten McDonald on Fat and Thin.
Nicole Heany and Zula took the top spot in both the 70cm Novice Horse and 90cm Open Horse classes. Notching up the most points in the Horse Top Score was Alex Boyd and Woskie.
Family Pony classes got underway in the afternoon with Zara Jones and Jenny delighted to take the red rosette for the Family Pony Lead Rein obstacle course. Sophie Winn and Paddy were the successful pair in the Unassisted Family Pony Class, while Ashley Byrne and Prince demonstrated their skills to win the Young Handler class.
Sophie Winn and Paddy also emerged victorious in the Lead Rein Cradle Stakes, with Aine Drain and Roly coming number 1 in the Cradle Stakes Unassisted.
The judging of the Fancy Dress was no easy task but ultimately 1st place was a gift for Joel O'Neil and Barney dressed as a Christmas Present. The 2nd place spot went to the Washer Woman and "her" washing line portrayed by Erin Dunseeth on Cinders, Lewis Bond on Freddie and Francis McWilliams. Harry Buckley was well disguised as a reindeer thanks to his mum's needlework in the wee small hours.
Stephanie Harper and Donna Nesbitt won a special present each thanks to the NAF Sponsored raffle in aid of the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice.

Show Jumping
Wednesday evening Show Jumping Training continues as normal, starting at 6pm with 50cm through to the metre until Wednesday 16th December. Competitors on Wednesday 9th December had a productive evening of jumping with quite a number taking home double clear rosettes, see below for details. There will be no Show Jumping Training evenings on either the 23rd or 30th December, although it will be possible to school over a Working Hunter course if pre booked. In the New Year on Wednesday 6th and 13th a show jumping course will be available for schooling, again please ring 9083 0649 to pre book a time slot.
Working Hunter
From Sunday 20th December a Working Hunter course is available for booking to get some training in for the start of the Laurel View Winter Working Hunter League on Sunday 27th December. For the Working Hunter League schedule or to book schooling contact the office on 9083 0649.
Indoor Cross Country
Wednesday 20th January sees the first of a series of 4 Indoor Cross Country Lessons
with Eric Smiley FBHS. This series of four lessons will take the horse and rider through from preparation on the flat and over poles right through to jumping indoor cross-country fences on a line. Eric is a dream at riding cross-country and is able to pass this on in his teaching. He shares the required preparation work in order to ride safely and effectively on the cross-country course. These lessons will be held on Wednesdays, 20, 27 January and 3, 17 February 2010 from 1 to 9pm at Laurel View. Each lesson will be for 90 minutes in a group of 4 or 5 and the series of four lessons will cost £180 per horse & rider. Charity Dressage Extravaganza
Plans are well underway for the Annual Charity Dressage Extravaganza on Sunday 3rd January. The schedule has a class for every level and the crowd pleasing Freestyle Dressage to Music class. As usual all the proceeds from this event will be going to the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. All entries please by Tuesday 29th December. Sponsors already offering their support for this very worthwhile Charity Event are Clare Veterinary Group, Northern Bank, Stonebridge Feeds and UFU (Ballyclare)
