TEN-YEAR-old Lauren Finn from Carrickfergus is on her way to the Horse of the Year Show.
Lauren, a pupil at Victoria Primary School, has her pony Brookwater Lord of the Light aka 'Jeffrey' stabled at Knockagh View Equestrian Centre and is taught on a regular basis by Samantha Dale.
Lauren and Jeffrey have this year notched up a total o
f five Supreme Champion Titles. Now added to their portfolio, is the most coveted qualifier in the Equestrian Calendar – that 'Horse of the Year Show' qualifying ticket.
The Horse of the Year show is the pinnacle of every rider's career as it's the world's most famous horse show.
There are no qualifiers in NI or Ireland for this illustrious show and Lauren is the only child in Province to gain this qualification.
Lauren and Jeffrey had to go to Nottinghamshire to compete against the UK's elite riders. They both rode a foot perfect show picking up marks 55/60 Ride and 38/40 Conformation and were awarded first place, to gain the Golden Ticket.
Lauren and Jeffrey head off to Birmingham NEC in early October to compete on Friday 10th. It is a very expensive trip but it's not an opportunity to be missed as this is a once in a lifetime dream to ride at the Horse of the Year Show.
Lauren and Jeffrey's successes include: Overall Supreme Championships captured Summer 2008; Ballymoney Agricultural Show; NIWHA Spring Pony of the Year Show; IAWPCS Summer Medal Show; NIWHA Summer Championship Show; Wingerworth Welsh Medal Show, UK; Balmoral Show, Show Pony Champion 2008; Ponies UK 2008; 1st HOYS 128 Show Pony; Reserve Champion 4, 5 & 6 Year Old Pony; second Open 128 Show Pony; first Brineton 128 Open Show Pony & Reserve Champion.
