The 2008 Northern Ireland International Horse Show kicked off on Saturday with the opening qualifiers in Mullingar.
Entry levels for both horses and ponies were the largest to date for the National Qualifiers. This qualifier marks the first of five throughout Ireland in the run up to October's Show. Riders came from all parts of Ireland, including Cork, Donegal,
Co. Mayo, Co. Down and Co. Antrim.
The depth of talent was very encouraging, showing how popular the Northern Ireland International Horse Show has become. Competitors are vying to compete at the Odyssey Arena event between Thursday, October 23, and Sunday, October 26.
Show Director, Raymond Jess, spoke very highly of the superb facilities at the Mullingar Equestrian Centre, owned by the Fagan family, and of the caliber of competitor taking part in the National Qualifiers.
Raymond said: "The Mullingar qualifiers went extremely well. With the event team, course director and facilitating hosts combining effectively to ensure all competitors had the best chance of qualifying."
Tom McGuinness of Horseware and Amateur Class sponsor was one of the successful competitors qualifying and was also on hand to present prizes. Beautiful rugs sponsored by Horseware were awarded to the winners in each class and rosettes down to 10th place.
Both Tom and Raymond congratulated all who qualified to compete at the Northern Ireland International Horse Show.
The remaining qualifiers are: Boswell, June 29, Barnadown, July 6, Tattersalls, July 20, Balmoral, July 27.
