DESPITE the wet weather, the IPS NA Summer Show went ahead as scheduled on Saturday 16th May at the popular venue of Thornleigh House, Ballynahinch, by kind permission of the McPolin family.
Whilst numbers were down due to the bad weather, there was a respectable turnout of competitors on quality ponies braving the elements.
In particular it was the younger talent that was out in force at the show. Young Lauren Houston on Mountain Gemma, having been awarded red rosettes in the Tiny Tots Lead Rein and Lead Rein Show Pony classes, went on to take the Mini Supreme title, closely followed by Eva McClurg who took both the Reserve and 1st Reserve titles. Connor McCormick also had a very successful day with his Brookvale ponies, taking both the Champion and Reserve Champion sashes in the Inhand Supreme and also his pony Brookvale Lavender Lady, ridden by young Rachel Moore, was awarded Reserve Champion in the Ridden Supreme Championship. He was actually pipped at the post by Rachel herself who on her own pony Fortview Silverstone won the Ridden Supreme Champion rosette. Well done to all the younger competitors!
The IPS Northern Area Committee would like to thank all those who helped make the show a success. Extreme thanks must go to all the judges, some of whom travelled quite a distance to attend. Many thanks also to course builders Gerry McPolin and Robin McCabe for their efforts and time with the challenging and flowing course during the whole day. The success of the show would also not be possible without the continuous hard work of all the scribes, stewards and IPS committee members who helped in anyway. Finally, thanks must go to the McPolin family for allowing the IPS to host the show at Thornleigh House and for the use of their excellent outdoor facilities.
The next IPS show will be the Northern Area Championship show on Saturday 4th July at 9am at Knockaghview, Greenisland. Pre-paid entries are £7 per class for members and £9 & levy per class for non members – these should be returned by 27th June. Field entries are £8 per class for members and £10 & levy per class for non members. The schedule and entry forms for this show can be downloaded from the website www.irishponysociety.com and further information is also available from Connor McCormick on 02897 510975.
