Frank and Rose Boyd had a winner when Tony McCoy partnered Sharevar to victory at Hexham on Saturday night and will be hoping for a higher profile success when the Willie Mullins trained Hurricane Fly partnered by Ruby Walsh runs in the Grade 1 Hurdle at Auteuil next weekend in a bid for repeat course success last time, writes RON McKNIGHT.
However, Sunday saw the Crossgar pair host the annual hunt chase event at their Rademon Estate sponsored by Sean Graham Bookmakers.
Many other local companies including the host's Killultagh Property Company endorsed the charity event in aid of Sis
ter Patrica's Zambia fund.
A good turnout of spectators including many from the point to point circuit attended but it was disappointing that just two of the Ulster hunts namely the host hunt, the Killultagh and the Tynan and Armagh were the only pair to represent the province in the nine team line up for the hunt chase.
The popular hunt contest was this year preceded by lure racing for greyhounds which caught the imagination of many and rumours that chief organisor John Carmichael had a 'grand' on the winner of the fun contest are totally unfounded with John better known as Clerk of the Course at the Killultagh point to points.
Surprisingly the favourites, the Ballymacad Hunt, who have a tremendous record in hunt chases throughout Ireland, only managed joint third with the local Killultagh team while the Ward Union (Gold] team prevailed over the Fingal Harriers in the final heat.
Rademon Estate is always appreciated by visitors with the Boyd family providing the lands for many varied events during the year but the set of obstacles especially the Keyhole fence built on the estate attracted high praise from all competitors.
Rademon Hunt Chase results: 1st, Ward Union Gold Team; 2nd, Fingal Harriers 3rd, Killultagh Hunt and Ballymacad Hunt.
