165 top class weanlings at Rathfriland

There were over 500 cattle on Friday with 165 top class weanlings.

These sold in a terrific trade e.g. Hillsborough farmer averaged around 250p/k for 7 Ch males. A Kilkeel farmer sold 18 Lim males and females to 248p/k. A Lurgan farmer: 16 Ch females to 253p/k for 290k @ £735. The 138 bullocks sold to a top of £1460 for a 690k Ch @ 23 months old. A second lot from this farm sold @ £1430. A top of 234p/k was paid for bullocks i.e. 382k @ £895 for a Craigavon farmer. Heifers sold to £1200 for a 640k Ch from Ballinran. Five heifers sold from this same farm sold from £1135 to £1200. Suckler cows with calves at foot sold to £1280 for a Lim cow and Sim calf from Downpatrick. An AA bull sold @ £1060 with fat cows to £950 for 724k from Derryneil. Dropped calves cleared up to £385 for a MBE bull calf from Aughnaskeagh. Heifer calves to £355 from Edenagarry.

Newry farmer £295, £365, £250 etc. Kil farmer BB bulls to £310. Loughbrickland farmer Hereford bulls to £260. Downpatrick farmer Hereford bulls to £240. Warrenpoint farmer FCK bulls to £260, £250 etc.

HEIFERS

A much larger entry of heifers were seen on Friday with 9 from Ballinran as follows; 640k @ £1200, 592k @ £1170, 606k @ £1140, 580k @ £1135, 538k @ £970, 520k @ £955, 480k @ £935 etc. Ballymartin farmer 570k @ £1110, 530k @ £980, 508k @ £960 and 520k @ £945. Ballykeel farmer 512k @ £1020. Drumaness farmer: 848k @ £1050. Annalong farmer 644k @ £1155.

SUCKLER AND FAT COWS

£1280 was paid to a Downpatrick farmer for a Lim heifer with a bull calf at foot. An Angus bull from Dromara sold @ £1060 with fat cows to £950 for a 724k Angus from Derryneil. Other prices for fat cows included; Downpatrick farmer 598k @ £915. Derryneil farmer 710k @ £805. Dromara farmer: 704k @ £720, 660k @ £655. Ballynahinch farmer 624k @ £625 etc.

BULLOCKS

The first bullock into the ring from a Dromara farmer was a 690k Ch sold @ £1460 with the second lot from the same farm making £1430 for a 750k animal. A 572k Ch from Brackney sold @ £1145. Craigavon farmer 526k @ £1055, 482k @ £1000, 382k @ £895, 394k @ £895, 422k @ £850, 412k @ £845. Ballyward farmer 558k @ £1030, 528k @ £1015. Katesbridge farmer 506k @ £1060, 494k @ £1000, 520k @ £960, 500k @ £940, 486k @ £910, 476k @ £900 and 494k @ £900. Ballykilbeg farmer 524k @ £1000. Ringsend farmer 622k @ £1010. Friesian bullocks sold to a top of 150 pence per kilo for 470k @ £710.

Lamb trade was better than expected on Tuesday evening with some great lots of heavy lambs. A Katesbridge farmer reached £85 for 27k and a Legananny farmer £84.50. Fat rams to £97, fat ewes to £76 and breeding rams to £210.
