The ‘Be Aware Kids’ child safety on farms 2016 calendar has been launched by George Lucas, chairman of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI).

The useful family planner entitled ‘Avoid Harm on the Farm’ features the winning entries from the 2015 ‘Be Aware Kids’ child safety on farms poster competition.

“Once again I am impressed by the creativity shown in this year’s winning entries. Choosing winners from the thousands of entries is always difficult so I‘d like to thank everyone for their fantastic work.”

Speaking at the launch at St Mary’s Primary School, Dunamore, Cookstown, where two of the winning entrants attend, Mr Lucas said: “Once again I am impressed by the creativity shown in this year’s winning entries. Choosing winners from the thousands of entries is always difficult so I‘d like to thank everyone for their fantastic work.

“Produced from the winning entries, these colourful and eye-catching calendars not only showcase the talent of our young people but also help promote important farm safety messages about everyday dangers on our farms.

“I hope these useful planners will find a prominent place in the homes of farming families throughout Northern Ireland as a useful reminder of how to keep everyone safe on the farm.”

The calendars are part of the awareness initiative ‘Be Aware Kids’ and since the start of the campaign, HSENI has developed a primary school teacher resource pack, a number of educational booklets for children and their parents, a farm safety board game and a farm safety website.

HSENI also delivers talks and presentations every year in rural primary schools on child safety on farms.
