Ai Services will be profiling all of the new bulls in its 2016/17 dairy sires’ catalogue at the upcoming Winter Fair.

“Demand for dairy semen is extremely strong at the present time,” confirmed the company’s breeding services’ manager Ivan Minford.

“This reflects the improved prospects for milk prices and the fact that a commitment to proven genetics is, possibly, the best investment that a milk producer can make.”

Minford highlighted two bulls that feature in the new catalogue. The first of these is Co-op Aardema Black Jack ET. He is a high ranking PLI sire from a renowned and proven cow family

“Black Jack is type improver, which can be achieved without increasing stature,” he said.

“He is ranked Excellent in all management traits and his daughters have snugly attached udders.”

The second bull currently catching the eye of breeders in Northern Ireland is Flevo Genetics Whattsapp ET.

“Whattsapp combines type, production and health traits: all in one package,” said Minford.

“He is a bull that ranks very highly, where calving ease is concerned, and is suitable for maiden heifers. Whattsapp daughters are inherently fertile.”

Minford also confirmed that all the main, featured bulls in the new Ai Services’ dairy sires catalogue are positive for both fat and protein percentage.

“Farmers now fully realise the extra value which better quality can milk deliver,” he said. “Improved fat and protein levels in milk can make a real difference when it comes to the monthly milk cheque which farmers receive. Base price should only be a minimal target when it comes to the bonuses that are available from cows that can produce high levels of components.”

The Winter Fair will also see the winner selected in the Ai Services’ free draw for an Apple iPad Mini 4. The initiative was launched following the release of the company’s new website, earlier this year.

“Entries will be accepted on-line up to the closing date of Wednesday November 30th,” said Minford. “We have had a huge response to date from both dairy and beef farmers.
