An outstanding presentation of show cattle equal to any of the UK mainland Winter Fairs was how judge Donald MacPherson from Berwick-on-Tweed described Tuesday’s Christmas Show and Sale of beef cattle and spectacular calves at Balmoral, Belfast.

An entry of 130 head attracted buyers from all over Ireland. Judging of the 20 classes and nine championships took Donald MacPherson seven hours, before a packed arena.

The Supreme Championship was awarded to a stylish baby Limousin heifer, exhibited by Declan McKenna, Clogher, sired by Lynderg Dimitri and out of a Limousin cross Blue cow. Weighing 580 Kgs sold to Jonathan McDowell, Farmview Meats, Castlereagh, Belfast for £6,000.

Reserve Supreme Champion was won by another Limousin baby heifer exhibited by Alan Farlow, Garvagh, sired by a Homebred Limousin bull and out of a Charolais cow weighing 600 kgs and sold to Country Meats, Aghagallon, Craigavon for £4,000.

Sam Carmichael, Maghera, judged The Housewifes Championship. The award was given to Keith Williamson, Benburb, showing a baby Blue heifer sired by Adajio and out of a Limousin cross cow weighing 690 kgs and sold for £4,800 to Jonathan McDowell, Farmview Meats, Castlereagh, Belfast. The reserve went to Crawford and Beattie, Newtownstewart for their baby Limousin heifer weighing 660 Kgs and selling for £2,800 to Country Meats, Aghagallon, Craigavon.
