Saturday’s 6th Northern Stars Sale of in-lamb Texel females at Ballymena Livestock Mart, saw excellent steady trade for in-lamb gimmers.

The well known award-winning flocks included namely Richard Henderson (Ballynahone), Victor and David Chestnutt (Clougher), Alastair Gault (Forkins), Roger Strawbridge (Tamnamoney) and guest consignor Andrew Kennedy (Maineview).

Taking the top price of the day was Richard Henderson’s Ballynahone Flock, Tobermore at 4,000gns.

This smart female is a Knock Travis daughter out of a Douganhill McFly mother in lamb to Teiglum Vigilante. She comes from one of the strongest breeding bloodlines in the Ballynahone flock with females from the same family having sold to 11,000gns and males to 9,500gns. She finds her new home across the sea with Mr G Jones, Foxhall Farm, Denbighshire.

The Ballynahone Flock also saw this gimmer’s pen mate sell for 1100gns, a Braehead Touch of Class daughter out of a Ballynahone Oscar mother. In lamb to Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold carrying twins and out of the same family bloodlines she heads South to her new owner Mr Michael Dwyer, Roscommon. Ballynahone averaged £971 for nine gimmers.

Second best price of the day was for another Knock Travis daughter out of a Douganhill McFly dam from Roger Strawbridge’s Tamnamoney pen, Coleraine. Carrying twins, this classy female is in lamb to Sportsman’s Scania. She is a maternal sister to the noted Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and also moves South to Mr L Brown, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Roger Strawbridge also saw a Sportsman’s Scania daughter change hands for 1,700gns. Out of a Ballynahone Rissoto dam and from the same family as females selling to 11,000 and 5,000gns, in lamb to Teiglium Vigilante this in-lamb gimmer joins the Carmavy Flock of S & J McCollum Crumlin, Co Antrim. Another Scania daughter from the Tamnamoney pen with a McFly mother realised 1100gns. From the same family as Tuborg Gold, carrying twins to Vigilante she moves to join the flock of Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk, Ayrshire. Roger Strawbridge averaged £713 for 22 gimmers.

Next in the running was Alastair Gault’s Forkins and Cherryvale Flocks. Again a Knock Travis daughter with a Douganhill Mcfly mother realised 3,600gns.

In lamb to Duncryne Uber Cool and out of the top bloodlines in the Forkins Flock, including maternal sisters selling at 11,000gns and brothers to 3,500gns, she also crosses the sea to Mr S Barclay Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
