NI Texel Club members travelled to the Ulster Farmers Mart for their Club Show and Sale in Enniskillen recently.

Judge for the evening was Philip Hammond, Tullylagan Texels, Cookstown. Breeders received steady trade and thanks go to Mark Crawford, TopFlock (Farmcare) for their sponsorship.

The sale of rams commenced with the sale of the Philip Hammond’s first prize shearling ram and Reserve Champion from Leona Young’s Redford pen. A Kilrail House Universal out of a homebred ewe by Ballymarlow Super Star, he sold for £357. David Hutchinson, Round Island Texels, Newtownbutler saw his third placed entry, a Drumderg UK son out of a Millcomb Powerhouse daughter change hands for £273.

In the money for a ram lamb was Ernest Hogg, Bunnahesco Texels, Lisbellaw, for a Crailloch Viking son out of a Kelso Platinium daughter. Standing fourth in Mr Hammond’s line-up he sold to Adrian Liggett for £546, making top price of the night. Also selling to Mr Liggett for £420 was A&J Young’s Kilrail House exhibit. An Oberstown Usain Bolt son out of a homebred ewe by Turin Marvel, he claimed Mr Hammond’s first place rosette in the Ram Lamb Class and Overall TopFlock Champion.

The second place ram lamb exhibit, a Douganhill McFly son out of a homebred Llangwm Rocky daughter from Mr T.N. Reid, Beechvale Texels, Omagh changed hands for £336. Drumderg Willy John, another Oberstown Usain Bolt son from Alistair Breen’s Drumderg Texel’s pen, Enniskillen took the third place rosette and later realised £357 to D Williamson.

Sale of shearling rams averaging £283.50 and ram lambs averaging £262.
