Calved heifers sell to £1200 at Markethill

Dairy stock at Markethill on 29th December sold to £1200 for calved heifers from a Loughgall farmer. An Armagh farmer sold a calved heifer at £1070. The same owner received £1020 for calved second calver.

FAT RING: The 80 cull cows sold readily. Beef bred cows to £132 per 100k for 608k at £800 and up to £1110 for 980k (113). Main demand for £112 per 100k to £121 per 100k. Fleshed Friesian cows from £88 per 100k to £93 per 100k for 680k at £635. Top price £800 for 890k (90). Second quality Friesians from £70 per 100k to £80 per 100k and the poorest types from £45 per 100k to £65 per 100k.

CALF RING: The 180 lots in the calf ring sold in an exceptionally strong demand. Bull calves (under 5 weeks old) sold to £415 for a CH calf from an Aghalee farmer. Main demand to £250 to £365 each. Heifer calves to £250 for a LIM with all good types from £180 to £245 each. Stronger Friesian bulls (4months old) sold from £180 to £250 each. Younger Friesian calves from £40 to £80 each.
