Cattle trade remains firm at Markethill

An entry of 750 store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Markethill on Saturday 3rd September continued to sell in a very firm trade for all stock.

Buyers from all parts of Northern Ireland and export agents were in attendance.

HEIFERS: The 230 store heifers included a large turnout of forward heifers which sold to £1210 paid for 610k (198). A further 45 heifers sold in excess of £1000 each. Top rate £213 for 532k at £1135. A top quality lots from £195 to £209 per 100 kilos. Middleweight heifers sold from £190 to £215 for 476k at £1025. Good quality lightweight heifers sold steadily from £200 to £224 for 310k at £695. Second quality heifers sold from £170 to £185 per 100 kilos.

Another large turnout of heavy bullocks returned an excellent trade with several lots selling in excess of £1300 each to a top of £1390 paid for 646k (215). Main demand for good quality lots from £200 to £216 for 510k at £1100. Middleweight bullocks from £190 to £220 for 368k at £810 followed by £217 for 412k at £895. Forward friesians to £1075 for 690k and to £161 for 666k at £1070. All suitable friesians from £140 to£160 per 100 kilos. Middleweight friesians from £135 to £151 for 444k at £670.
