Confident cattle trade at Markethill

An entry of 360 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 9th January sold in a very confident trade with a packed ringside of buyers from throughout NI in attendance.

HEIFERS: The 132 store heifers returned an excellent trade with good quality heifers from £185 to £211 for 388k at £820 for a Loughgilly farmer. Forward Heifers to £192 for 616k at £1185 from a Belleeks farmer. Main demand from £175 to £190 per 100 kilos. A substantial number of forward heifers sold from £1000 to £1170 each. Second quality heifers sold from £160 to £170 per 100 kilos.

Good quality Friesian bullocks in strong demand with middleweights from £121 to £152 for 444k at £675. Forward friesians from £127 to £153 for 522k at £800.

The 40 lots in the suckler ring returned a very good trade. A Keady farmer sold several outfits from £1100 to £1300 with a top of £1420 and £1370. A Moira farmer received £1180 and a Lurgan farmer sold two outfits at £1150 and £1120.

WEANLINGS: The 60 weanlings sold in an excellent trade. Heifers from £190 to £220 for 364k at £800 from a Banbridge farmer. Good quality males from £190 to £237 for 334k at £790. Heavy males from £180 to £191 for 504k at £960.
