Cookstown, one of Ireland’s leading pork brands, is pleased to once again sponsor the “Pig Farmer of the Year” category in the Farming Life/Danske Bank awards.

Andrew Irwin, site director, said: “We are delighted to be involved with these prestigious awards which recognise the best farming practices, not only in pig farming, but across the whole agri spectrum in Northern Ireland.

“At Cookstown, we recognise that our farmers are an integral part of our business and we are very proud of our strong farming links across the whole of Northern Ireland. In fact, some of our farmers have worked with us for several generations.

“We have a close working relationship with all of our 120 farmers in Northern Ireland. Through regular contact visits, we support them in their drive to improve production efficiencies, animal welfare and mortality rates through the utilisation of modern farming practices, feed programmes and enhanced breeding operations.

“As a business, we are also pushing forward with new opportunities to help increase food exports, which will in turn have a beneficial effect for both the Northern Irish economy and our pig farmers.

“At the core of our business we are committed to ensuring optimal welfare standards, unrivalled production chain traceability and supply of the highest quality pork products in the local and export markets.

“That is why this award is so important to us and we look forward to recognising the successful pig farmer who also shares our values.”
