The countdown is on with just one week to go before the NI Simmental Club’s 45th anniversary Elite Female show and sale.

The one day event takes place at the Pedigree Sales Arena near Moira on Saturday 5th September, commencing with judging at 10.30am, followed by the sale at 1.00pm.

Auctioneer Michael Taaffe said: “This sale marks a significant milestone in the history of the Simmental Club, and breeders have pulled out all the stops to offer an exclusive selection of pedigree heifers, many of which would normally be retained and not offered for sale.

“The catalogue includes 32 maiden and in-calf heifers, all of which have been individually inspected on-farm. They come from high health status herds, and will be eligible for immediate export.”

Herds represented in the catalogue include: Ballinlare Farm, Cladymore, Cleenagh, Coolcran, Derrycallaghan, Drumacritten, Drumagarner, Glenock, Kilbride Farm, Lisglass, Omorga, Ranfurly, Scribby Farms, Slievenagh and Woodford.

The heifers on offer are daughters of sought-after sires such such as Kilbride Farm Newry, Camus Brandy, Curaheen Vio, Ashland Brandy, Dermody Butcher, Raceview King, Seabank Flint, Kilbride Farm Ahoghill, Whitemire King Kong, Kilbride Farm Warren, Omorga Baldwin, Kilbride Farm Delboy, Corrick Kentucky Kid, Crugmelyn Brenin, Auroch Amos, the 20,000gns Stirling junior and supreme champion (Feb 2010) Auchorachan Wizard; the 15,000gns Cairnview Snazzy; the 12,000gns Kilbride Farm Bantry; and the 10,000gns Drumlone Anchor – junior and supreme Stirling champion in October 2010.

Club chairman Richard Rodgers added: “We are looking forward to welcoming Simmental enthusiasts from throughout the UK and Ireland. This sale presents a unique opportunity for breeders to purchase the cream of Northern Ireland’s genetics.

“A big thank you to our sponsors, Bimeda, Ag-Con Products Ltd, T-Met, Irwins Feed, Tulivin Laboratories Ltd, Comfort Mats, Animax and Crystalyx. This showcase event would not be possible without their support.”

Bimeda is a global manufacturer and distributor of animal health products and veterinary pharmaceuticals. One of its leading products is Bimectin Plus, a broad spectrum injection for the control of internal and external parasites in cattle.

This 3-in-1 injection for chronic fluke, worms and lice, contains the potent anthelmintics Ivermectin and Clorsulon, and offers convenience, value for money and efficacy.

The Clorsulon component has been shown to be over 99% effective against adult fluke, making Bimectin Plus a popular choice for the UK’s cattle farmers. For the beef farmer Bimectin Plusm has a meat withdrawal period of 66 days.

Territory manager for NI Kevin McAnenly said:” Bimectin Plus is licensed for a wide range of internal and external parasites. Lungworms, stomach worms and live fluke can all have a devastating economic effect on cattle.

“Bimectin Plus contains a powerful combination of anthelmintics, which controls all three parasites in one injection.”

Ag-Con Products Ltd based in Rostrevor, Co Down, is an integral part of the Gibney Group (Moylagh) Ltd.

The company is an industry leader in the manufacturer of agricultural and construction products.

Its product portfolio includes a wide range of farm gates and fittings, feed troughs and hay racks, transport boxes, bale lifers, cubicles, sheep hurdles, and manhole covers.

In the mid 1980s the company introduced a range of products for the construction industry, including site fencing, builders trestles and wheelbarrows.
