Dairy stock sells to £1310 at Markethill

Dairy stock sold to £1310 at Markethill on Tuesday 8th December for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer. A Banbridge farmer sold two calved heifers at £1150 each.

CULL COWS: The 100 cull cows returned a steady trade. Beef-bred cows sold to £1145 for an 860k IE import cow (133). Main demand from £105 to £119 per 100 kilos. Fleshed Friesians to £99 for 600k at £590. Top price £70 for 780k (90). Main demand from £88 to £94 per 100 kilos. Second quality friesians from £70 to £85 per 100 kilos with the poorest types from £50 to £65 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: The 180 lots in the calf ring maintained a firm trade with bull calves to £370 for a blue. Main demand from £250 to £305 each. Heifer calves to £300 for a blue with all good quality heifer calves from £180 to £270 each. Strong Friesian bulls (three to four months old) sold in a very good trade from £150 to £190 each. Young friesians from £40 to £70 each.
