Dairy stock sells to £1440 at Markethill

Dairy stock sold to £1440 at Markethill on Tuesday 8th March paid for a calved heifer from a Stewartstown farmer. A Poyntzpass farmer sold a calved 2nd calver at £1420. The same owner received £1080 for a calved 2nd calver. Stewartstown farmer calved heifer £1160.

CULL COWS: The 160 cull cows sold in a very firm demand for all classes. Beef-bred cows sold from £120 to £138 for 724k at £1000. Top price £1215 for 906k (134). Fleshed Friesian cows from £95 to £117 for 768k at £900. Second quality friesians from £80 to £88 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £55 to £70 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: The 210 lots in the calf ring returned a strong trade. Bull calves to £375 for a Lim followed by £365 for a Simm. Main demand from £230 to £340 each. Heifer calves to £385 for a 4 week old Lim. All suitable heifers from £240 to £355 with others from £150 to £230 each. Strong Friesian bulls (up to 5 months old) sold from £130 to £180 each. Young Friesian bulls from £35 to £98 each.
