Flahavan’s, Ireland’s leading porridge brand, has been awarded both Agribusiness of the Year and Food Producer of the Year at the prestigious Agribusiness Awards 2015, which took place at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin on 8th December 2015.

The awards acknowledge Flahavan’s successful domestic and export business growth, its innovation strategy, its operational excellence and its commitment to sustainable food production.

The Flahavan’s brand is Ireland’s favourite porridge, with over two million servings consumed each week. It has proven to be hugely successful in the Northern Ireland market where it is sold in all the main retailers – including Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

As Ireland’s oldest family owned business, Flahavan’s has been milling oats for seven generations and this year it celebrates 230 years of milling oats in Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford.

The company’s range of oats is sourced from local farmers within an 80km radius of the mill (which is based in Waterford), some of whom have been supplying the mill for many generations.

Today, Flahavan’s oat products are exported to 14 countries worldwide in varying flavours and formats including Organic, Multiseed, Fruits, Quick Oats Pots and Sachets, Flapjacks, Muesli and their new Granola. The company’s most recent export market, South Korea, has been performing ahead of expectations and demonstrates its recognised expertise in terms of marketing, product innovation and new product development.

The company success has be widely commended – having also been awarded Best Green Supplier Most Eco Friendly Supplier at the Checkout National FMCG Awards in 2014, winner of the 2015 Ulster Bank Business Achievers Award for Food & Drink in Munster as well as being awarded National Champion in the European Business Awards 2015.

Accepting the awards on behalf of the company John Flahavan said: “It is an incredible honour to receive both of these awards, especially in the presence of some of Ireland’s leading agri-businesses. We are extremely proud of our heritage and are privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the agri-business sector in Ireland for 230 years.

“Our success is based on an unwavering commitment to quality, the trust we have built up over the years with our loyal consumers, our constant innovation across our product range, as well as our focus on health and wellness and sustainability all of which has been supported by our retail partners. But this award is also testament to the incredible work of all our staff and those employed by Flahavan’s down through the years, as well as our growers and suppliers.”
