President, Margaret McGregor, welcomed everyone to the May meeting of Muckamore WI which opened with the award winning play which the Drama Group had performed at the WI Drama Festival on 16 April 2015, gaining first place in the play category.

Members thoroughly enjoyed the humorous performance and Margaret McGregor thanked Elizabeth Gray and the other cast members for all their hard work and commitment to this competition.

Awards presented at the Drama Festival to Muckamore WI were as follows:

Ulster Cup – 1st overall Play

Robert Smith Trophy for Best Producer – Elizabeth Gray

Christine McKeown Memorial Cup for Best Play written by a WI Member

Nan Whyte Trophy for Best Actress – Ruth Wilson

Cuthbertson Rosebowl for Best Costume – Jean McCollom

Margaret McGregor thanked everyone who came along and supported the ACWW walk which took place on Saturday 25 April 2015 and also to all the members who attended and entered the competitions at the Area Group Meeting on Thursday 30 April 2015. Congratulations were expressed to Heather Kerr who achieved 1st prize in the Floral Art Open Class and also to Arlene Heaney who was presented with Craft Ribbons for Quilting and Toy Making.

Congratulations and best wishes were expressed to Wilma and Sydney Scott on the occasion of their Golden wedding anniversary on 26 May and Margaret McGregor presented Wilma with two rose bushes on behalf of all the members.

Speaker for the evening was Norman Cairns who brought members into the life of Percy French through his singing and poems. With Norman playing the banjo, members were able to enjoy a sing-a-long to some well known songs, Come Back Paddy Reilly, Mountains of Mourne and Phil the Fluter’s Ball and got all the feet tapping along. Esther McCourt proposed the vote of thanks.

The monthly competition was “Funniest Limerick”. 1st place Irene McCullough, 2nd place Margaret Bent, 3rd place Maisie Clyde. The birthday girl for the month was Molly Finlay. The evening concluded with singing the Countrywoman’s Song.
