Entry of 1,591 sheep at Markethill

An entry of 1,591 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 16th December sold in a steady trade.

The 1,450 lambs sold readily with heavy lambs reaching from £70 to £75 each with a top of £76 each. Top rate of 309p per kilo was paid for 24 kilos at £74.20, followed by 298p per kilo for 25.1 kilos at £75 each. All top quality pens sold from 280p to 295p per kilo. In all, 670 heavy lambs averaged 25.6 kilos at £72.50 each (283p)

Middleweight lambs sold to 314p for 22 kilos at £69 each. All good quality pens sold from 290p to 312p per kilo.

Stores sold readily from 310p to 351p per kilo for 16.6 kilos at £58.50 each. Stronger pens sold to 345p per kilo for 18 kilos at £62 each.

The 125 cull ewes sold to £85 each. Main demand sold from £60 to £71 each. Plainer ewes sold from £35 to £50 each.
