Entry of 1180 sheep at Markethill

An entry of 1180 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday sold in an easier trade for lambs with cull ewes and breeding sheep maintaining a firm trade.

The 680 lambs returned a complete clearance. Light lambs sold to 352p per kilo for 21kilos @ £74 each. Main demand sold from 335p to 343p per kilo.

Heavy lambs sold from £77 to £82 each with a top of £89.50 each. Top rate of 344p was paid for 26kilos @ £89 each. Main demand sold from 310p to 321p per kilo.

The 270 cull ewes sold readily with good quality pens selling from £70 to £99 each with plainer ewes from £50 to £65 each.

Another large turnout of ewes & lambs sold in a strong trade. Doubles sold from £150 to £170 each. Good quality singles sold from £130 to £168 each.
