Final countdown to Limousin sale & open day

The NI Limousin Cattle Club are now in the final days leading up to their Bank Holiday Open Day at Murtagh Walls, Hilltown followed by their new evening sale of Unhaltered & Haltered Females at Hilltown Mart sponsored by Ulster Bank Ltd.

Club President Jim Scott stated: “I am delighted at the support from our Club members for this new sale.

“It is an excellent platform for potential buyers to come along and view female stock from some of our best herds in the area and see what bloodlines are appealing to them.

“I hope that the sale gives new breeders and young breeders the opportunity to buy a female and start their own pedigree herd enterprise which is vital for the future of the Limousin breed.”

Following on from the article last week other vendors in the sale include Donal Murray, Cullyhanna and his Titchburn herd who have two cow and calf units and two heifers for sale. His cow and calf units include a Broadmeadows Cannon female who has bred bulls to a top price of £10,000 with a calf at foot by Haltcliffe Dancer.

The other unit comprises of a Sympa cow from an excellent breeding line which has sold bulls to a top of £12,000 with a bull calf at foot by Elite Erasmus and now served to Ampertaine Gigilo. His two heifers are sired by Haltcliffe Dancer and Ampertaine Elgin out of two good breeding cows from the Titchburn herd.

Next James and Alison Callion’s Melbreak Herd has a cow and calf unit and two young females entered for sale.

Cow and calf unit comprises Neuf and Sarkley bloodlines with a calf at foot sired by Melbreak Halogen and is now AI’d to Ampertaine Foreman. One of the maiden heifers has strong French bloodlines including Milou, Dauphin and Obole and the other is an Ampertaine Commander daughter out of a Wilodge Vantastic dam.

Francis McAuley’s Carmorn herd has two lots entered which include a Soprano cow who is in calf to Goldies Hallmark and a young heifer sired by Ampertaine Eliminator out of home bred dam going back to Ronick Blonde bloodlines which is AI’d to Mullary Intrepid the Overall Limousin Male Champion at National Show Tullamore 2014.

Arthur Malone, Castlewellan has two maiden heifers on offer from his Millview herd. One is sired by Lenagh Equaliser out of a homebred dam with Neuf bloodlines, and AI’d to Wilodge Goldcard whereas the other has Objat,Haltcliffe Hercules and Neuf bloodlines.

Kevin Mackin & Sons, Newtownhamilton have a Cloughead Umpire cow for sale which is served to Trueman Jukebox, the Ampertaine Elgin son bred by H Savage & Sons, Altnamackin, which has been very successful in the show ring winning Supreme Championships at both the NI Limousin Championship Antrim and Calf Spectacular in Ballymena earlier this year.

Kevin also has this cow’s maiden heifer for sale which is sired by Cloughead Ernie an Objat son.

Patrick McDonald has two lots on offer from his Tullyglush herd both bred from sire Carmorn Copilot, who has bred bulls to a price of £13,000 combined with other bloodlines including Ronick Iceman, Graham’s Unbeatable and Ulm.

Finally the Club warmly invites all to come along to the Open Day at Murtagh Walls’ Hilltown farm at the foot of the Mourne Mountains where he will be showcasing a superb grassland farm with an excellent Limousin suckler enterprise between 3pm and 6pm on the same day prior to the sale at Hilltown Mart which is starting at 7pm.
