Firm trade for cattle at Markethill

An entry of 530 store cattle and weanlings at Markethill on Saturday 28th March continued to sell in a very firm trade with buyers in attendance from throughout N.I. including export agents.

HEIFERS

The 160 store heifers sold in an excellent trade. Forward heifers to £227 for 500k at £1145 with all top quality lots from £185 to £210 per 100 kilos. Middleweights to £223 for 410k at £920. Main demand from £190 to £220 for 400k at £880. Good quality lightweights from £200 to £242 for 310k at £750. Second quality heifers all of weights sold readily from £170 to £180 per 100 kilos.

Cattle prices remained steady at Markethill on Tuesday 31st March for an entry of 320 cattle.

Dairy cows sold to £1390 for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer. An Aghalee farmer received £1350 for a calved heifer. Newtownhamilton farmer calved heifer £1300. Mayobridge farmer calved heifer £1290. Several more from £1100 to £1250.

CULL COWS

The 100 cull cows sold in another firm demand with beef bred cows from £118 to £145 per 100 kilos and up to £1025 for 740k (138). Fleshed Friesian cows sold from £110 to £122 for 800k at £980. Young Friesian cows to £132 for 600k at £790. Second quality friesians from £90 to £105 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £65 to £80 per 100 kilos.

Younger types from £40 to £80 each. Heifer calves sold to £295 for a Lim followed by £270 for a WHD. Main demand from £180 to ££260 each.
