Firm trade for cattle at Markethill

An entry of 850 cattle at Markethill on Saturday, 29th October attracted buyers and sellers from throughout NI trade for all stock was very firm.

BULLOCKS

The 375 bullocks returned an excellent demand throughout sale. Heavy bullocks to £1460 for 714k (204) from a Banbridge farmer. Main demand from £188 to £210 per 100 kilos with a top of £218 for 512k at £1120. Good quality middleweights in excellent demand to £221 for 412k Char at £910. All good quality lots from £200 to £218 per 100 kilos. Lightweight steers from £200 to £242 for 316k at £762. Friesian bullocks to £159 for 510k at £810. All good quality friesians from £140 to £151 per 100 kilos.

Dairy stock sold to £1500 at Markethill on Tuesday paid for a calved heifer from a Stewartstown farmer. The same owner received £1380 and £1100 for calved heifers. A Loughgall farmer sold 2 calved heifers at £1410 and £1050 each.

CULL COWS

The 220 cull cows sold in a very firm demand particularly the poorest quality cows. Fleshed cows from £120 to £139 for 712k at £990. Friesians from £97 to £112 for 708k at £795. Second quality cows sold from £80 to £90 per 100 kilos with the poorest types from £50 to £75 per 100 kilos. Cows/heifers from £145 to £175 for 658k at £1150.
