Firmer demand for dairy stock at Markethill

Dairy stock sold in a firmer demand at Markethill on Tuesday 2nd February.

Top price of £1330 was paid twice for calved heifers from a Mountnorris farmer and a Glenanne farmer. A Dromore farmer sold two calved heifers at £1250 and £1075 each. Mountnorris farmer calved heifer at £1180.

CULL COWS: The 150 cull cows sold in a very good trade with poor quality cows in stronger demand. Beef-bred cows to £162 for 584k at £945 and up to £1100 for 850k (129). Main demand from £118 to £142 per 100 kilos. Fleshed Friesian cows from £95 to £109 for 780k at £850. Second quality friesians from £80 to £90 per 100 kilos with the poorest types from £58 to £73 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: The 140 lots in the calf ring sold in a very good trade. Bulls reached £395 for four week old char. All good quality bulls from £230 to £315. Good quality heifer calves to £285 for a whitehead. Main demand from £200 to £275 each. Young Friesians £85 each. Main demand from £40 to £80 each.
