Flying trade for lambs at Rathfriland

An absolute flying trade for 338 lambs on Tuesday evening. A top price of 477 pence per kilo was paid for 19k at £90.50 for a Rathfriland farmer.

A farmer from Newry sold 19k @ £87.50 or 460.5 pence per kilo. Ballynahinch farmer 20k @ £92.50 or 458 pence per kilo. The heavier lots sold to £97.50 for 22k from Banbridge or 442 pence per kilo. Downpatrick, Newry and Hilltown farmers all sold 23k lambs @ £97.50. Farmers from Downpatrick, Kilcoo and Cabragh sold 22k and 23k @ £97. Fat ewes cleared up to £105, Rams £120 and ewes with lambs at foot to £182, £180 etc.

LAMBS: Ballynanny farmer 22k @ £97.50 for 17 lambs. Newry farmer 23.5k @ £97.50. Downpatrick farmer 23k @ £97.50 for 20 lambs. Hilltown farmer 23k @ £97.50 for 14 lambs. Kilcco farmer £97. Cabragh farmer: 22k @ £97. Downpatrick farmer 22k @ £96 for 17 lambs. Drumboniff farmer 22k @ £96. Ballymartin farmer 20k @ £92.50. Rathfriland farmer 19k @ £90.50. Newry farmer 19k @ £87.50. There was a marked improvement on cattle prices on Friday night across the weight range.

106 weanlings easily cleared up to 248 pence per kilo for a 262k Ch male @ £650. This pen of Ch males averaged 225 pence from a local producer. A Milford producer reached 246 pence per kilo for 260k @ £640. Three farmers reached £800 per head for weanlings. Store heifers were also an improved price with a Ballyward farmer reaching 204 pence per kilo on two occasions for 402k @ £820 and 424k @ £865. A Corbet farmer reached £1065 for Heifers. A Castlewellan farmer £1050 and an Edenagarry farmer reached £1040. More Friesian bullocks in the entry this week with £1050 recorded twice for a Kilkeel farmer. Suckler cows reached £1140 for a 3rd calver from Katesbridge. A powerful entry of quality dropped calves easily cleared to £405 with young sturks to £640 for a 284k Ch from Glenside Farms, Dundrum.

A pen of Ch male and female calves around 4 months old sold to £640 followed by £585, £545 for males and £405, £380 and £360 for females from Glenside Farms. Warrenpoint farmer Lims, £380 and £310. Hilltown farmer Ch male £355. Newry farmer £355. Kilkeel farmer £355, £290 and £200. Rathfriland farmer MBE heifers @ £235 and £220 etc.

WEANLINGS: Seapatrick farmer 390k @ £800 and 290k @ £595. Second Seapatrick farmer 434k @ £800, 440k @ £790, 400k @ £770 and 412k @ £750.
