This Saturday (21st November), Loughs Agency are hosting a FREE angling open day on Newry Canal and at the Newry Enterprise Centre from 10am to 4pm.
Adults, juniors, experienced anglers and novices are welcome to come along and experience a range of different fishing techniques and get tips and hints across game, coarse and sea angling disciplines.
Delivered by qualified angling coaches and instructors there will be fly tying, bait rigging, casting displays, as well as demonstrations on Newry Canal (adjacent to the Newry Enterprise Centre and within walking distance).

Eugene Andrews will help visitors learn different types of bait rigging and how to create your own rigs for sea fishing.
On the canal there will be plenty of opportunity for fishing practise under the guidance of coaches. Local coach Geoff Quinn said: “There will be a coarse fishing competition for younger anglers to compete in for prizes and awards, so bring the kids. In fact, we’ve angling goodie bags for the first 40 kids that register!”
John Pollock, CEO at Loughs Agency said: “This event aims to encourage new and experienced anglers to learn or hone new skills in angling. It’s a great opportunity for youngsters to learn the basics of fishing and perhaps give them confidence to take it up as a hobby. Indeed, we’d like to encourage adults who would like to take up angling to come along too!”
