Ballymena Livestock market welcomes the return of the January Gems In-Lamb Texel Female Sale on Saturday 3rd January 2015 at 12 noon.
Following on from an extremely successful in-lamb sale in 2014 the Gruig, Blue Gates, Curley, Ballyhivistock Kilrail House and Redford Texel flocks have almost 70 gimmers and ewe lambs catalogued with an exceptional diversity of pedigree lines available to purchase.
The main focus of all of the flock has been to breed pedigree Texel Sheep for both the Commercial and Pedigree markets, keeping an eagle eye on producing good carcasses with tight skins while maintaining the true Texel character. All of the flocks represented have had great success both in the show ring and with sales, and offer a number of females which are breed from the same bloodlines as show champions and top prices at Pedigree sales.
Entries offered from the Gruig flock, bred by Adrian McCartney, are daughters of the successful stock ram Humeston Talent, whose sons have sold to 7000gns and has consistently bred strong lambs with great carcases and skins. All lots come in lamb to Meifod Verdi purchased jointly with the Firgrove Flock in Lanark 2014. Bursting with breeding, his dam was a Glenside show gimmer and sired by Tophill Ulrich purchased at the Welsh National Sale for 2,800gns.
The Blue Gates flock run by brothers Chris and Martin Mullan offer for sale a great group of gimmers in-lamb to their new stock ram Millcomb Vindicator purchased jointly with the Crawfordsland flock at the NI Premier sale, for the second highest price of the day. He is a Knock Ursus son out of a 4,800gn Forkins ewe, and was awarded the Junior Stock Ram Championship in The NI Texel Club’s Flock Competition 2014. A number of Blue Gate gimmers also come in-lamb to Tamnamoney Powers, a proven stock ram with great scale and correctness. Most of the Blue Gates gimmers entered are sired by the efficacious Mullan Superfly.
Robin and John Trimble’s Curley Texel Flock renowned for their Championship wins and top prices have catalogued a select batch of gimmers which include ET sisters to the 2013 Male Champion at the NI Premier Sale and a few hand-picked gimmers bred from Haddo Ringleader, who has worked well within the flock. Curley lots come in- lamb to Brackenridge Transformer and two exciting new joint purchases Ballbrooney Van Persie purchased at Blessington and Cowal Viceroy, a lamb full of breed character and bursting with size and power, purchased at Lanark 2014 for 8,000gns
Following on from their success of top price at the January Gems sale in 2014 with a Hullhouse Schnapps daughter that sold to £2,200, the Simpson and Calvin partnership have again entered a smart group of Ballyhivistock gimmers from this lucrative sire. Other lots entered have been sired by Fairmount Seven o Seven again a most successful breeder within the flock producing offspring with loads of breed character while keeping the carcase type and tight skins Ballyhivistock are renowned for. Service sires this year include: Llyfni Vidal, he has a tremendous carcase and character and was the flock’s top lamb in 2014 out of their show gimmer, purchased at Lanark for 2,200gns. He is owned solely by the Ballyhivistock flock and no semen has been sold from this lamb; Beechvale Superior, stock ram at Crawfordsland Texel he has consistently bred high quality males and females and Forkins Umar, Supreme Champion N.I. Main Sale 2013. A ram with great power, skin and breed character. His progeny performed exceptionally in his first year. Used exclusively in the Ballyhivistock flock.
Finally the husband and wife team of John and Leona Young have catalogued a number of special gimmers and ewe lambs from their long established Kilrail House and Redford flocks. Completing this outstanding catalogue of females they offer a number of gimmers’ in-lamb to the senior ram Botera Unstoppable, and new purchases to the flock Tullylagan Vantage, a lamb with great style and potential and maternal brother to Lanark sale topper 2013, Tullylagan Tonka and Far Hey Victorious, purchased at Lanark 2014. Ewes entered are sired by a number of successful tups including, Goldies Rocket, Milestonehill Top Loader, Botera Unstoppable and Ballydesland Ugene. Both flocks offer for sale a pen of tremendous ewe lambs with the character of breed that is evident within each flock and has been reflected in their successes in the NI Texel Club Flock Competition over the past number of years.
