Good ring of buyers at Swatragh cattle mart

Cattle: Another strong seasonal entry of quality cattle on Monday, 8th August met a flying trade with a good ring of buyers with some very good prices.

More quality stock is required to meet demand. Heifers selling to £750 for 368kg (£2.03 per kg), Bullocks selling to £870 for 412kgs (£2.11 per kg).

Sample prices:

Heifers: Swatragh Producer 368kg,£750; 436kg,£800.

Bullocks: Swatragh Producer 412kg,£870; 394kg,£820; 422kg, £870; 484kg,£850; Maghera Producer 366kg, £640.

Sheep: Another super entry of 1,085 sheep at Swatragh on Saturday, 6th August witnessed a very good lamb trade. Several pens of heavy lambs sold well in excess of £80.00 each to a top rate of £81.00. Middleweight lambs sold to £75.50 for 21.25kg, Store Lambs sold to £64.50 for 17.5kg and Ewes sold to £76.00 with over 260 on offer.

Middleweight Lambs: Maghera Producer 24 Lambs 21.25kg at 75.50 = 355p; Maghera Producer 2 Lambs 23kg at 80.20 = 349p; Swatragh Producer 7 Lambs 21.5kg at 72.80 = 339p; Magherafelt Producer 11 Lambs 23.9kg at 80.00 = 335p; Maghera Producer 4 Lambs 22.5kg at 77.00 = 342p; Maghera Producer 16 Lambs 23kg at 79.00 = 343p.

Store Lambs: Donemana Producer 15 Lambs 17.5kg £64.50 = 369p, Garvagh Producer 20 Lambs 14.5kg at £49.50 = 341p; Maghera Producer 20 lambs 14.5kg at £50.00 = 345p.

Ewes: Moneymore Producer 2 Texels at 76.00.
