Great entry of sheep at Rathfriland Co_op

Another great entry of sheep on Tuesday evening at Rathfriland Co-Op saw 130 spring lambs sell to £106 for the Champion pen of Hampshire Downs.

These weighed 21k from Billy Morton of Ballyards, Armagh at 504p/k. All lambs from 21k up sold well; however, there were too many light lambs i.e. 17k to 19k which reduced the average to 411p/k. Over 1100 hoggets sold in a good trade with a top price of £100 being paid to a Ballyhatton farmer. A top of 409.5p/k was paid for 21k at £86 from Rathfriland. Fat ewes sold to £127 for a Ringclare farmer, £122 paid to a Ballinaskeagh farmer and £120 paid to a Ballymageough farmer. Ewes with lambs at foot to £172 for a Leapoges farmer.

BREEDERS: A Leapoges farmer topped this section at £172 a piece for three ewes with two lambs each. Ewes with single lambs sold to £155 for an Annalong farmer.

On Easter Tuesday (7th April), a Corbet farmer will offer 40 young crossbred ewes with lambs at foot. These will be sold at approximately 8.45pm.

A big entry of 120 dropped calves sold in a flying trade on Friday.

A Cullion farmer topped the sale at £450 for two Lim bulls. A Warrenpoint farmer sold a Lim bull at £400. A Seaforde farmer sold a Lim Heifer calf at £405 and a DAQ heifer from Cullion sold at £400. Weanling calves sold to 279p/k for a Castlewellan farmer. A top in this section of £890 was paid to a Ballyward producer for a Lim bullock. Weanling heifers to £780 for a 380k lot from Ballyward. A stronger trade for store heifers with £1145 paid for a 588k Lim from Drumlough. Other lots from this farm @ £1130, £1130, £1075, £1070 and £1040 etc. Kilkeel farmer: 586k DAQ at £1075. An Annalong farmer topped the bullocks at £1175 for a 660k Her. Warrenpoint farmer: 588k BB at £1140.
