Many small and junior flocks have made progress and are snapping at the heels of some of the older more established flocks.

Novice flock winner and junior member was Jake Wells with his newly established Whistlinthorns flock from Grange Portadown - a very enthusiastic breeder.

Small flock Champion was 25 year old Hannah Robinson from Donaghadee with her well known Ballyvester flock. Hannah has had a very successful show year winning many championships including champion and reserve at the Royal Ulster and Champion at the 2017 Irish National.

Reserve small flock was Allen & Vicky McFadden’s Banbridge based Ashley flock. The Ashley flock was very prominant at the UK national show in June selling a ram lamb for the top price of £1500.

A son of Ashley Black Jack the ram was purchased as a new stock ram by David Cormack for his relatively new flock who showed the Champion Hampshire at the Great Yorkshire and the Royal Welsh.

Another flock that won prizes in many categories including reserve Champion flock was the the Glenbrook flock of Peter Lawson from Balliesmills.

The Glenbrook farm runs 300 commercial ewes and a flock of 50 pedigree Hampshires. The judge Harrie Roekevisch from the Netherlands was particularly impressed with this flock and the shepherding skills of Sean Doyle, livestock manager of the enterprise. The flock has had a very successful show year winning many championships in the ring.

Best flock Southern Ireland was awarded to the newly established flock of Raymond and Daphne Scott from Cavan.

The overall champion flock was awarded to the long established Ballycreelly flock of Kevin and Anna McCarthy from Comber, Co Down, who have been breeding Hampshire’s for over 30 years.

The club would like to thank Mr Harrie Roekevisch for his time judging and to Gortavoy Feeds and Farm supplies from Dungannon for their generous sponsorship.
