The annual Tractor Pull at Mullahead & District Ploughing Match, draws thousands of spectators from across the province and so it is no surprise that R Heatrick Ltd (Portadown) are delighted to become the main sponsor for the competition this year.

The civil engineering and demolition specialists based on the Tandragee Road, Portadown have come on board just as the Ploughing Match is set to celebrate its centenary year.

Trevor Heatrick commented: “We have all grown up with the ploughing match happening on our doorstep and look forward to the event every year.

“The annual tractor pull is a huge crowd pleaser and winning at Mullahead is something which many drivers around the country aspire to? To become involved with this event is something we are very excited about.”

The annual tractor pull will take place on Saturday 28th February at Richardson’s Estate as part of the 100th Annual Mullahead & District Ploughing Match and organisers are expecting one of the largest crowds on record.

Chairman of Mullahead & District Ploughing Society, Kenny Gracey commented that momentum was building ahead of the Centenary Match.

“2015 is set to be our biggest year yet, both in terms of visitors and attractions on the day.

“Not only do we have the usual horse and tractor ploughing competitions, there is also the ‘Tesco Food Tent’ to enjoy, our Fashion at Mill Farm fashion show, prize draws and an exciting World Record Attempt for the ‘Most Draught Horses Ploughing Simultaneously’ –100 horses for 100 years,” he added.

The event will also feature cookery demonstrations, a craft village, shopping mall, machinery display, face painting and live music. The U105 Roadshow will also be broadcasting live from the event.

The first Tractor Pulling Competition was held in 2002 and ever since it has been one of the most popular attractions at Mullahead. Dozens of competitors challenge their tractors to pull a weighted sledge along a set course. The furthest pull, wins. Sounds simple, but this is a test of both the tractor and the driver so unsurprisingly the competition is fierce. Crowds line the track, cheering on friends, family.

Entries are still open for this popular event however spaces are allocated on first come first served basis and all prospective competitors are encouraged to get your entry in as soon as possible.
