Heavy fleshed beef bred cows sell to £1200 at Markethill

An entry of 240 cull cows at Markethill on Tuesday 18th October sold in a very firm trade.

There was a large entry of heavy fleshed beef bred cows which sold from £130 to £133 for 784k at £1200. Top price £1260 for 940k (133). Friesian cows from £100 to £113 per 100 kilos and up to £790 for 770k. Second quality Friesians from £80 to £95 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £45 to £70 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: The 190 calves sold in a steady trade. Good quality bulls to £325 for a three week old Blue. Main demand from £220 to £310. Heifer calves to £295 for a three week old Blue. All good quality heifers from £180 to £265.

Dairy cows sold to £1160 for an in-calf third calver from Dromore farmer. The same owner sold two more calved cows at £1090 and £1080 each. An Armagh farmer received £1080 for a calved heifer. A Poyntzpass farmer sold a calved second calver at £1000.
