Ronald Coulter BEM, Hillsborough and Co Wexford’s John Whelan secured a fabulous result for ploughing in Ireland at the Russian National Ploughing Championships (RNPC) in the region of Saratov on the banks of the Volga river.

John was the outright winner with Ronald coming a close second.

Tractors and ploughs were provided by the Russian National Ploughing Organisation. The tractors were Russian built four wheel drive Agromash and the ploughs were two furrow reversible Kverneland and no modification was allowed other than a hydraulic link. Each competitor had to draw for his outfit, then was allowed two hours to practice before the elimination rounds began. The final took place on Saturday 24th May 2015, where from 34 invited competitors, the final 10 had qualified.

The soil was a black hard sandy type which made the match a very even competition. John Whelan emerged as winner with Ronald Coulter second and third went to Priit Puuorg from Estonia.
