A great night’s craic was had at Richard Irwin’s farm where North East Derry UFU and Kilrea YFC held their annual barbecue.
All ages availed of delicious steaks and a variety of barbecue dishes all organised by the Ulster Farmers’ Union who certainly showed off their barbecue skills, compliments to the chefs.
This was followed by dessert of apple tart and ice cream and the weather even held out.
On behalf of Kilrea YFC thanks must go to North East Derry branch of UFU for their organising of the event.
Sincere thanks also to Choice Cuts and Barenbrug for their contribution to the food for the event, this indeed is very much appreciated by Kilrea YFC.
Prizes for raffle and auction were provided by club members with further generous contributions from O’Neill Construction, R Irwin Ltd, Culmore Organic Farm, Barenbrug, Pretty Woman(Kilrea), James McAuley Mill, Stephen Moore Farm Machinery, H A McIlrath, JB and Ciaran O’Hagan, D Gordon Engineering and Baronagh Angus.
The club pass on their gratitude to all who contributed.
To date the club don’t have a final sum of money raised at the event however once all money is gathered they will provide this at a later date.
The proceeds will be split between two worthy causes, namely Cancer Research and Parkinsons Disease Society.
Music for the occasion was provided by Alistair Coyles, who certainly set the atmosphere for the event.
It was a great chance for members, ex-club members, UFU members, families and friends to get together and enjoy the chat and indeed the bouncy castle was put to good use!
Kilrea YFC are indebted to Richard and Janice Irwin for hosting the event and members know they did much background work in preparation for it and members are very grateful for this and all the support which they give to Kilrea club.
This event also gave the opportunity for the club to be part of the Know Your Neighbour theme run through YFC headquarters and brought together young and old from farm and town.

The next day some members headed to Ballyeaston to do Guard of Honour to their member Leanne Witherhead (nee Mark) and her husband Richard. Best wishes to them both for the future.
