Large entry for dairy calf show

The catalogue for next week’s 13th annual multi-breed dairy calf show has attracted an entry of almost 90 Ayrshire and Holstein calves and young handlers.

The one-day event on Saturday 12th September, takes place at the Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira, commencing at 10.30am, and is one of the highlights in the calendar for young dairy cattle enthusiasts.

The catalogue features showmanship classes for novice and experienced handlers, as well as a large number of classes for heifer calves from the two dairy breeds.

Judging of the Ayrshire classes is the responsibility of English breeder Michael Broadley from Brundcliffe Farm, Hartington, Derbyshire.

Gary Jones from the Jones Herd in Gorey, County Wexford, will be officiating in the Holstein section.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said: “We are indebted to our sponsors, without whom this event would not be possible.”

John Thompsons and Sons Ltd is sponsoring the Ayrshire and Holstein calf classes.

New sponsors DT Services is supporting the Holstein showmanship section, while the Ayrshire showmanship classes are sponsored by OB Construction.

Western Farm Enterprises is continuing with its sponsorship of the Holstein exhibitor-bred championship.

A warm welcome is extended to everyone to attend the event.
