Larger entry of cattle at Rathfriland

While dropped calf numbers decreased, weanling and bullock numbers increased on Friday.

Kilkeel farmers were prominent in the top prices for weanling. A Ballyveamore farmer reached £820 for a 398k male while an Upper Brackney farmer reached £810 for heifers. A top of 239 pence per kilo was paid for a 242k Lim heifer at £580 from Armagh. Store heifers sold to £800 for a Hereford from Legananny with fewer quality heifers around. A larger entry of bullocks cleared up to £1065 for a 554k Angus from Ballymartin. A 560k Lim from Dysart sold at £1015. Fat cows sold to £855 paid to a Sheepbridge farmer for a 608k Lim. Hol cows sold up to £700 for a Katesbridge farmer. Breeding bulls cleared up to £1000 for a Pedigree Shorthorn. Dropped calves sold to £350 (twice) for a Lim Bull from Seaforde and a Lim heifer from Moneydarragh.

A full yard of sheep on Tuesday evening saw a larger entry of ewes with lambs at foot to £188 for a Katesbridge farmer. Fat ewes to £108 for a Knockgorm farmer and hoggets to £97.50 for a Whitehill farmer. A smaller entry of spring lambs cleared up to £97 for a Donacloney farmer.
