Cattle prices took a major leap up at Rathfriland Co-Op on Friday.

A larger entry of heifers saw 590k @ £1260, 540k @ £1225, 472k @ £1040 and 288k @ £675. In the bullock section, 616k Lim from Annalong sold @ £1225, 550k Ch from Ballyholland @ £1100 and 514k @ £1090. Weanling calves sold at prices not seen since last Autumn e.g., 402k @ £930, 214k @ £680 or 318p/k, 2 Her breeding bulls from Kilkeel sold @ £1300 for 508k and 512k @ £1130. Dropped calves just get dearer. £425 was paid to a Warrenpoint farmer for a Sim bull calf. A Leapoges farmer sold a BB bull @ £410. Sim heifer calves to £380 for a Warrenpoint farmer.

A great entry of breeding sheep saw ewes with a single lamb from Annaclone sell @ £182, £180, £180, £175 and £170. Springing ewes from Ballyward sold to £168 for 2 lots.
